About Mista Lawnge
Mista Lawnge (a.k.a. Mr. Long) is a multi-talented producer, writer, emcee, DJ, host, and actor best known as the creator and founder of the legendary hip-hop duo Black Sheep. Widely recognized for shaping the group’s sound, Lawnge produced and co-wrote the entirety of A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, the duo’s groundbreaking debut album that remains their most successful release to date.
Black Sheep made history as the first hip-hop act to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno following Johnny Carson’s departure, and quickly stood out in the early 1990s for their creativity, wit, and innovation. Their satirical take on gangsta rap in “U Mean I’m Not” became an instant cult classic, while hits like “The Choice Is Yours (Revisited),” “Flavor of the Month,” and “Strobelite Honey” dominated charts and clubs worldwide. In 1992, A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing landed three singles on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, including the #1 smash “Strobelite Honey” and the top-10 anthem “The Choice Is Yours (Revisited).”
Never one to stand still, Lawnge remains active in the studio and on stage. Most recently, he completed a successful Black Sheep European and UK tour, bringing the group’s classic catalog to international audiences while also working on fresh projects that expand his already influential career.
